Take Off Pounds Sensibly

Belmont, NC - Caren Morgan and friends greet each other the same way every Monday night in the parking lot of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.  “Hey, looooser!”  “Loser!” they call back, and they smile and walk in together.  Caren and friends are members of the local Take Off Pounds Sensibly chapter.  They have given the slip to well over 50 pounds in less than one year!

Their chapter, TOPS#NC 827, Belmont meets at 6:15 p.m. Monday in the Fellowship Hall of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 701 Secrest Avenue (corner of Secrest and South Main Street). On Monday, September 15th at 6:00 p.m. the chapter will hold an open house, “Tea Time with TOPS”.  The community is invited.  We will be serving hot tea (hat and gloves optional, but encouraged!), as well as learning about the health benefits of tea.  “This is an opportunity for anyone interested in learning about TOPS to ask questions,” says chapter leader Caren Morgan.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS Club, Inc.) is a powerful nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support organization with thousands of associate chapters in the United States and Canada.  Members (more than 200,000 worldwide), learn about nutrition, portion control, food planning, exercise, and more, in weekly meetings.  Weigh-ins, group feedback and support help members achieve their goals.  TOPS Club, Inc. is the original weight loss organization and its International Headquarters is based in Milwaukee, WI.

The Summer Of Music Comes To An End

Sadly, last night was the end of the Friday Night Live music series in Downtown Belmont and was closed out by Coming Up Brass.

It was truly a wonderful summer of music and I hate to see it end. Maybe we can have a Fall Series . There was a little diversity in the music this year, still a little heavy on the Beach Music side but I know that’s what this area really likes. I was so shocked and surprised when I saw Swampdawamp was on the schedule and I must say that was my favorite night and fell the day before my birthday.

I want to thank Vince Hill, president of the Downtown Belmont Merchant Association for all his effort keeping this going. I would encourage everyone to visit the DBMA website to see the list of all the businesses that contribute to the cause with their time and donations as well.

A hats off needs to go out to the boys at Creative Solutions that put up and take down the staging as well as the crew of the City of Belmont that gets the streets cleaned up before the next day making it look like nothing every happened.

Need to also thank the Belmont Police Department for their professionalism and interaction with the community in general and specifically in these types of events.

And saving the best for last, thank you to all the people that came out to make these events magical and the bands honored us by coming to entertain us.

Belmont Definitely Rocks!

Coming Up Brass - Last Friday Night Live Concert

August 22nd, 2008 will be the last Friday Night Live event of the 2008 Summer series and the Belmont Downtown Merchants Association has a great band to end out the event. Creative Loafing Readers Pick voted Coming Up Brass as the “Best Local Band for Dancing” which should make for yet another GREAT Friday Night in Belmont so get your dancing shoes ready. Coming Up Brass, or The CUB Band, is a 10 piece (yes 10!) group of musicians who play for the love of the music. When it comes to music, trust us, size does matter … they have a very BIG sound!

Check out some video of them below
