May 6th - Vote For Quarter Cent Sales Tax
On Tuesday May 6th North Carolina will be having it’s Primary and on the ballot there are going to be a lot of things that you are going to have to make a choice on. One of the more important things that will effect the residents of Gaston County on an individual level is the proposal for a quarter cent sales tax.
Thats 1/4 of $0.01 increase in items that you purchase in Gaston County. When I first saw it my initial reaction was “Great, more taxes” but as I educated myself on the matter at hand I began to realize that this is what should be done. Read the rest of this entry »

Dowtown Belmont Fresh Market to Open Saturday
The Belmont Fresh Market will be open again this summer starting this Saturday, May 3rd 2008 at 8:00am as a ’soft’ opening with May 10th being kick-off to the Fresh Market this year. While this is a late start the majority of the vendors that have participated in the past will be there again this year.
This year there will be T-Shirts available to help support the Downtown Belmont Fresh Market that ewre designed by local artist Zoe Ranucci.

For this Saturday’s Soft Opening Mike from Seafoods.com will be there with a long list of fresh seafood and some other special items this year. Below is a list of what is to be expected. For May 10th he is expecing to have limited number of Live Lobsters just in time for Mother’s Day. If you want to pre-order the lobsters or place a special order you can do so this Saturday at the Fresh Market.

Belmont Water Restriction News Release : April 21st, 2008
BELMONT OK’s ADDITIONAL CHANGES TO WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES
As a result of information provided by Duke Energy to the Drought Management Advisory Group pertaining to improved lake levels along the Catawba River and the overall impact of certain water uses, the Belmont City Council has approved additional changes to the current Stage 3 water restrictions regarding outdoor water usage.
Effective immediately, any outdoor use of water, including residential vehicle washing, the filling or refilling of swimming pools, and pressure washing, is now allowed on Saturdays. All outdoor water use may occur at any time on Saturdays but must end at midnight.
